About
Build Galveston

Galveston has a rich history and Build Galveston is excited to be a part of that history and growth.

OUR MISSION

Build Galveston, as a 501(c)3 nonprofit community development corporation, will assemble, leverage and utilize resources to strengthen the social, physical and economic environment of our community with a focus on providing attainable housing for those working on the Island and revitalizing historically underserved neighborhoods.

OUR VISION

Galveston will be home to a diverse population living in homes they can afford in healthy neighborhoods across the Island.

History of Build Galveston

Build Galveston began as one of the seventy-eight recommendations established by Vision Galveston. In 2018, local philanthropists, Galveston elected officials, community leaders, and general residents began a formal planning process.

The objective?

Define a shared strategic vision for the future of Galveston. This collective impact model was meant to create a more viable, equitable, resilient, and sustainable community.

Community-fueled recommendations and related actions would put the island in a stronger position to tackle systemic, interdependent challenges—driving a gradual transformation to safer, more livable neighborhoods and green spaces, attainable housing, equitable access to health care, social services, quality education, healthier environments, and more significant employment opportunities. Build Galveston was established from recommendation 56, to establish a community development corporation in Galveston.

This is not a government project. It is a project funded by Grants and Foundations that are deeply invested in Galveston and led by a board of directors that represents the diverse communities of the Island.

We are working with the City of Galveston along with other government agencies, civic groups, local non-profits, and the private sector so that the outcome of this plan is included in all their future efforts.

PARTNERS

The goals for Build Galveston are big. These tasks take communication and shared efforts to improve the quality of living on the island. We continue to reach out to members of our community, county and state for guidance and assistance. We are happy to have partnered with CenterPoint Energy, Rebuilding Together Houston and look forward to hearing from you about future collaborations.
